Chairman's Report 2020/2021

VE Day 1945

‘That was the year that was’ or wasn’t, as we have not had any members meetings since March 2020 or a committee meeting since February 2020, there will be much to discuss when we do meet.

If things continue to improve as they appear to be I am hoping (everything crossed) we may be able to restart in the autumn venue permitting.

Sadly 2021 started with the sad news of the death of Vice Chairman Mike Hatch, an active committee member, who had given RLHS two interesting talks. I was privileged to be invited to the funeral to represent the society.

The yearend accounts have been completed thanks to our treasurer Ann, and audited by Tony Rainford to whom we extend our sincere thanks.

My thanks to Sarah who has been beavering away dealing with research inquiries, digging and delving into the wee small hours, earning the society some revenue in an otherwise income barren year. Sarah has also been liaising with the owners of Mariners Cottage, Church Street, and the authorities regarding the renovation of the water pump which is progressing well.

Pauline our secretary has since May 2020 been producing an interesting monthly article about historical sites in Rhuddlan and surrounding towns, these have been published in the Rhuddlan Parish Magazine, Charlotte our social media rep has uploaded these onto the society’s website and Facebook pages.

Congratulations are extended to Charlotte and her husband Luke on the birth of baby Luna in March this year, not certain if she is a member yet!!!!

Let’s hope we can meet again soon, and enjoy our monthly meetings once again, with some more interesting lectures.
